The Amazon has long captured the imagination of explorers, scientists and storytellers alike. For ALEWildFilms, this expedition was an opportunity to step into one of the world's most biodiverse ecosystems and document the wildlife that depends upon it. Travelling deep into the Peruvian rainforest, we spent our days searching for elusive species, navigating winding waterways, and experiencing the sights and sounds of a forest that never truly sleeps.

From troops of monkeys moving through the canopy to caimans emerging after dark, every day offered a new glimpse into the complexity of life in the Amazon. The footage gathered during the expedition forms part of an ongoing effort to tell compelling stories and share the wonder of the natural world with a wider audience.

The Amazon rainforest is far from a single, uniform environment. During the expedition, we explored a variety of distinct ecosystems, each supporting its own unique community of wildlife. Along the vast river systems, life is shaped by seasonal flooding and nutrient-rich waters, attracting everything from river dolphins to wading birds. Beyond the riverbanks lies the flooded forest, where rising waters transform the landscape for months at a time, creating a complex habitat used by fish, reptiles and countless other species. Further inland, the terra firme forest remains above flood level year-round, forming a dense, ancient rainforest where species such as the striking monk saki monkey move through the canopy. Together, these interconnected habitats create one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth, each playing a vital role in maintaining the health and resilience of the Amazon as a whole.
